Wildlife and domestic animals are very much part of life on Martha's Vineyard, where the birding is particularly rich and there is still a culture of farming. But animals add enormously to the quality of life in the big city, too, where people walk their dogs in the parks and on the streets and live in close proximity to their beloved animal companions.
