MEXICO, HOLY WEEK 2009

Mexico has a special place
in my heart. I was born and raised in Laredo, Texas a border town that was, when I was growing up,
about 95% Mexican Catholic. The Mexican culture was deeply entwined with that
of Texas in Laredo and was an integral part of my daily life; I feel a close
kinship with Mexico and her people. As a photographer, I am especially drawn to
the colors that are everywhere in Mexico, bringing startling life to even the
most mundane scene. This trip to Mexico reinforced everything I have always loved about the country and the
people. But it also revealed a side I had never experienced, the arcane and moving
religious ceremonies and processions of Holy Week. These photos were taken in Taxco, Puebla, and Queretero.
